About the Event

Have you been meditating sporadically and want to really commit to a practice and see its impacts on daily living? Have you found yourself in a "replay loop" of emotions and wondering how you to help yourself? In this immersion, you'll learn the following:

  • Understand the complexity of emotions and learn to identify, examine and be with emotions.
  • Learn how to apply mindfulness to daily living and with respect to emotional episodes.
  • Join a group of meditators with support and accountability in reaching your goal for establishing a personal at-home practice.

The immersion consists of 6 sessions (held via Zoom) every Monday from July 13 through August 17.  Meeting time is 5:30 to 7:30 Pacific time.  Teaching methods will include a mixture of lecture, stretches, journaling, discussion, meditation and small group work.

Brief Outline (subject to change)

Session 1 - Group introduction / Intro to CEB / Intro to Emotions

Session 2 - Emotional Episode Timeline - Working with the phases of an EET

Session 3 - Emotion Skills: Anger & Enjoyable Emotions

Session 4 - Emotion Skills: Contempt, Disgust & Sadness

Session 5 - Emotion Skills: Fear  & Display Rules

Session 6 - Four Balances / Genuine Happiness / Closing

This course is based on Cultivating Emotional Balance.  Started in 2000 by leaders in contemplative tradition, including HH Dalai Lama and Dr. Alan Wallace, and leaders in emotions research such as Dr. Paul Ekman, Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB) is an educational training committed to utilizing the experience of emotion as a path for developing the happiness of being for ourselves and in relationship to others. By integrating the wisdom traditions of modern psychology, current emotion research, and contemplative practices, CEB provides a secular platform for transformation.
